Bihar's ₹6.58 Lakh Crore Infrastructure Push: 60 Projects Done

Bihar is accelerating its development journey with a massive infusion of national infrastructure projects, according to Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. The state is currently executing 170 central government projects with a combined worth of a staggering ₹6.58 lakh crore.

Substantial Progress on Ground

Providing details after a recent meeting of chief secretaries with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, Choudhary stated that significant headway has already been made. Out of the total, 60 projects valued at ₹1.28 lakh crore have been completed and dedicated to the public. The remaining 110 projects, involving an investment of ₹5.30 lakh crore, are currently in progress across vital sectors like roads, railways, power, and urban development.

The Deputy CM highlighted that Prime Minister Modi reviewed projects worth over ₹85 lakh crore nationwide and instructed officials to speed up implementation. This focus has directly benefited Bihar, where national infrastructure projects are now rapidly taking shape.

Sector-Wise Breakdown and Monitoring

The roads and highways sector leads the pack with the largest share of 72 projects. It is closely followed by the railway sector, which has 38 ongoing initiatives. Substantial investments are also flowing into power, oil and gas, telecommunications, urban infrastructure, and waterways.

Choudhary emphasized the role of the PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) system in resolving bottlenecks. He revealed that 41 major projects in Bihar, with a total investment of ₹2.13 lakh crore, were under review through this mechanism. Among these, 12 projects worth ₹51,833 crore have been finished, while 29 projects valued at ₹1.62 lakh crore are advancing swiftly.

High Resolution Rate and Future Outlook

The state government's proactive approach is reflected in a high issue-resolution rate. Out of 266 identified project-related challenges, 255 have been resolved, achieving a success rate of approximately 96%. Specifically for PRAGATI projects, 149 out of 156 issues are settled, with only 11 pending and being actively addressed.

The most common hurdles were related to land acquisition (167 issues), followed by forest/environmental clearances (32) and right of way/use (23). The Deputy CM assured that the state government is continuously providing land, law and order support, and administrative assistance. Continuous monitoring at both central and state levels aims to resolve remaining challenges in a time-bound manner.

Choudhary pointed to the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, rail-cum-road bridges, and major power projects as landmark achievements giving a new impetus to job creation and economic activities. "Bihar is no longer limited to merely approving projects but has become a state focused on rapid execution," he asserted. The state is now emerging as a major hub for connectivity, logistics, and infrastructure in eastern India.
