BJP Leader Launches Scathing Attack on BRS and Congress Over Telangana's Debt Crisis
In a fiery address on Thursday, Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao launched a blistering critique against both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress party, accusing their combined 12-year governance of plunging the state into a severe debt trap while failing to deliver substantive development. Rao's remarks came during a presentation to party leaders, where he dissected the tenure of the Congress-BRS alliance, highlighting what he described as systemic failures in urban administration and political integrity.
Collapse of Urban Governance and Unfulfilled Promises
Rao asserted that urban governance in Telangana has completely collapsed under successive governments, with the Congress particularly culpable for not implementing its high-profile election promises, including the much-publicized 'six guarantees'. He emphasized that political morality has deteriorated sharply under the current Congress administration, citing the defection of BRS members to the ruling party as a blatant betrayal of the public mandate. Reiterating his stark warning that 'a vote for BRS is a vote for Congress', Rao urged voters to rally behind the BJP to salvage the state's future.
Mounting Debt Burden and Financial Mismanagement
The BJP leader presented alarming figures to underscore the financial distress facing Telangana. He revealed that all 123 municipalities across the state are collectively burdened with debts totaling approximately ₹3,600 crore, while the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation alone carries liabilities of around ₹5,000 crore. Rao accused the Congress government of prioritizing corruption and exploitation over development, alleging that it has borrowed nearly ₹80,000 crore in just one year, thereby deepening the state's debt crisis. This reckless borrowing, he claimed, has created an unsustainable financial trap that threatens Telangana's economic stability.
Law and Order Deterioration and Communal Politics
Beyond financial woes, Rao flagged a steady decline in law and order, rising unemployment rates, and worsening infrastructure across Telangana. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy-led government is resorting to divisive communal politics to cling to power, pointing to an increase in attacks on Hindu temples and the alleged misuse of government land for vote-bank politics. Warning voters against supporting the BRS, Rao argued that backing the regional party would effectively endorse the Congress's failures, urging citizens to instead choose the BJP for transparency and accountability.
Central Funding and Development Claims
In a counter-narrative, Rao asserted that urban development in Telangana has been largely funded by the central government, which he claimed has released nearly ₹12 lakh crore to the state over the past 11 years. He detailed specific allocations, including ₹9,512 crore spent on projects related to national highways, railways, and the AMRUT mission. Additionally, Rao highlighted that the poor have directly benefited from central schemes such as PM SVANidhi, Mudra Yojana, and Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, contrasting this with what he termed as state-level mismanagement.
Call to Action for Municipal Elections
With the slogan 'Save Telangana-Vote for BJP', Rao made a passionate appeal to the electorate to support the lotus symbol in the upcoming municipal elections. He emphasized that a vote for the BJP would ensure genuine urban development, enhanced transparency, and greater accountability in governance. Rao's address sets the stage for a heated electoral battle, as he positions the BJP as the sole alternative to what he portrays as a decade-long legacy of debt and disappointment under the BRS and Congress rule.
