BJP Candidate in Telangana Dies by Suicide Amid Political Allegations
In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Telangana, a 46-year-old BJP candidate from Ward 6 of Maktal Municipality in Narayanpet district died by suicide early on Tuesday morning. The Narayanpet Police confirmed the death, stating that Mahadevappa took his own life around 5:30 AM.
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities have registered a case and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the suicide. The deceased's body has been shifted for a post-mortem examination, with the report awaited to provide further insights. Police officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to await official findings before drawing conclusions.
BJP Alleges Harassment by Congress Leaders
Reacting strongly to the incident, Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao alleged that Mahadevappa was driven to suicide due to persistent harassment by Congress leaders, including a local minister. Rao claimed that the harassment had been ongoing for many days, with the candidate facing pressure to join the Congress party.
"He was forced to join the Congress. He somehow came out of their clutches and got a BJP ticket, and he was contesting. He was a BJP worker from the very beginning. Because of the harassment and threats by the local minister and his goons, he committed suicide this morning," Rao stated in a press conference.
Demands for Action and Condemnation
The BJP has condemned the incident in the strongest terms and demanded immediate action against those allegedly responsible. Rao called for the suspension and arrest of the local minister, Vakiti Srihari, and urged the tribal commission to take cognizance of the matter to ensure justice is served.
"BJP condemns this and wants the minister to be suspended and demands his arrest. Also, the tribal commission should take cognisance of this matter," Rao added, highlighting the party's stance on seeking accountability.
Background of the Deceased Candidate
Mahadevappa was described as a dedicated BJP worker who had been associated with the party for a long time. His candidacy in the upcoming municipal elections was seen as a significant step, and his sudden death has left the local BJP unit in mourning. The incident has sparked discussions about political pressure and harassment in the region, with calls for a thorough probe into the allegations.
As the investigation continues, the political atmosphere in Telangana remains tense, with both parties expected to engage in further discourse over the tragic event. The post-mortem report and police findings will be crucial in determining the next steps and addressing the claims made by the BJP.
