BJP Condemns Derogatory Posts Against Karnataka Woman MLA

A senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader has issued a strong condemnation following the circulation of highly offensive posts on social media targeting a woman legislator from Karnataka. The incident has sparked outrage and led to police action.

Senior BJP Leader Voices Strong Condemnation

BJP state secretary and Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta expressed his strong disapproval of the derogatory content aimed at Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya. In an official media statement, Chowta highlighted that MLA Murulya hails from an oppressed community and has served the public with sincerity and dignity.

He stated that posting such low-level and offensive material against a public representative, particularly a woman MLA, is utterly condemnable. Chowta emphasized that targeting and maligning elected officials in this manner on social media platforms is a serious issue. He further argued that such actions, which disrupt social harmony, only demonstrate intellectual bankruptcy. Misusing social media to assassinate character, instead of using it constructively, is extremely unfortunate, he added.

Police Case Registered in Bantwal

The controversy has moved from online platforms to the police station. Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath urged law enforcement to take action against the individuals responsible for the derogatory posts.

Acting on a complaint, the Bantwal Rural police station has registered a formal case concerning defamatory and derogatory content posted against MLA Murulya. The complaint was filed by Sadananda, a resident of Bantwal taluk.

According to police details, the complainant stated that on January 7, he came across derogatory posts and misleading content that used the MLA's photograph. These posts were uploaded on a Facebook account named 'Billava Sandesh'. Sadananda alleged that the content amounted to false and defamatory propaganda on the social media platform.

Investigation and Legal Action Initiated

Based on the filed complaint, police have officially registered a case. Authorities have confirmed that a proper investigation is underway and that legal action will be initiated following its completion. The case underscores the growing concerns about the misuse of social media to attack public figures and the subsequent legal repercussions.

The incident has brought to the fore the challenges of maintaining dignity in public discourse, especially for women and representatives from marginalized communities. The swift condemnation from party colleagues and the initiation of police proceedings highlight the seriousness with which such cyber misconduct is being treated.
