Jaipur Lecturer Suicide Protest Concludes Following Government Assurances
The sit-in protest staged by the family of suspended lecturer Manohar Lal Bhadu, who tragically died by suicide in Jaipur on Wednesday evening, was officially called off on Friday. This decision came after the government provided firm assurances to accept the family's primary demands, bringing an end to the tense demonstration.
Key Demands Met by Authorities
According to Thakarram, the deceased's cousin who spoke to reporters, the protest was withdrawn only after authorities agreed to several critical conditions. These include:
- Providing a contractual government job to a member of the bereaved family.
- Granting all service-related benefits that were due to Manohar Lal Bhadu.
- Registering a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused Special Operation Group (SOG) officials who were allegedly harassing him.
- Ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Political Support and Negotiations
The protest gained significant attention when former minister Sukhram Vishnoi joined the family on Friday, lending political weight to their cause. Deputy SP Ramkishan Vishnoi played a crucial role in mediating talks with the family, ultimately facilitating the resolution and the end of the sit-in demonstration.
Background of the Case
Manohar Lal Bhadu, a 35-year-old suspended lecturer, was preparing for competitive exams in Mahesh Nagar at the time of his death. He had been implicated in a case registered in 2021 related to paper leaks and dummy candidates. In his suicide note, Bhadu made serious allegations against two SOG officials, claiming they were harassing him by falsely involving him in cases.
Following his death, the family initially refused to allow the post-mortem examination and staged a protest outside the SMS Hospital mortuary. It was only after the government's assurances that they agreed to proceed with the post-mortem process, allowing the body to be sent for examination as confirmed by PTI reports.
The case has highlighted issues of alleged harassment by law enforcement and the pressures faced by individuals involved in legal proceedings, with the government's response now focused on addressing the family's grievances through the agreed-upon measures.
