Key Issues Facing the Constituency

Residents of Thiruvalla have been grappling with several developmental and environmental challenges. Erratic water supply and poor sanitation in semi-urban pockets remain persistent problems. Traffic congestion, exacerbated by burgeoning commercial hubs and religious festivals, adds to the daily woes of commuters. Flooding along the Pamba River frequently disrupts rubber plantations, paddy fields, and spice crops, which are crucial to the local economy. Youth unemployment continues to be a pressing concern, despite the inflow of remittances from Gulf migrants. Delays in rural road upgrades and inadequate public transport further compound the difficulties faced by the population.

Other significant issues include frequent power disruptions during the monsoon season, illegal waste dumping in water bodies, and limited healthcare access beyond basic Primary Health Centres. Rising land prices are squeezing small farmers, while environmental threats from quarrying and river pollution strain the agrarian economy. As an LDF-aligned seat with a Christian-majority demographic, the constituency struggles to balance development with traditional values amidst Kerala's broader civic challenges.

Exit polls released for the high-stakes Kerala battle had indicated a competitive contest, and the final results have now confirmed the victory of Varghese Mammen.
