Maharashtra Revenue Minister Bawankule Offers Talks Ahead of Employee Strike
Maharashtra Revenue Dept Strike: Minister Offers Talks

Maharashtra's Revenue Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, has extended an olive branch to departmental employees threatening to go on strike this Friday. The minister stated he is open to discussions but will not bow to any pressure tactics from the unions.

Talks Scheduled Amidst Strike Threat

The confrontation stems from the suspension of ten officials during the recent winter session of the state legislature in Nagpur. In response, employee unions have called for a strike on Friday. Addressing the media in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Bawankule announced that a crucial meeting has been convened. A meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at noon at Mantralaya with the employee unions. While expressing readiness for dialogue, the minister firmly stated that no pressure tactics would be accepted.

Suspensions Linked to Illegal Sand Mining

Bawankule clarified that the suspensions were a direct result of actions taken against illegal sand mining activities uncovered across the state over the past eight months. He emphasized that suspension is not a final punishment but a procedural step. The outcome of inquiries will be available within a month, and those suspended will be reinstated if found not guilty, he assured. The minister reiterated the state government's firm support for upright officials, promising them full protection while they perform their duties.

The employee unions, however, have a different perspective. They claim that the suspensions of the ten officials—including four tehsildars, four circle officers, and two talathis—were illegal. The unions argue that no principles of natural justice were followed in the process.

Addressing Broader Employee Concerns

Beyond the immediate issue of suspensions, Minister Bawankule also addressed other longstanding demands of the revenue department employees. He highlighted that the government has taken proactive measures over the past year for their welfare. Promotions and seniority lists, among other formalities, were approved on a priority basis. He added that employees no longer need to visit Mantralaya to follow up on these matters, streamlining the process.

Meanwhile, during his visit to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Bawankule also met with party office-bearers to review preparations for the upcoming municipal polls in the city.
