Maharashtra Speaker Rahul Narwekar Slams Sanjay Raut's Alibaug Allegations as 'Cheap Stunt'

Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar has categorically dismissed allegations leveled against him by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut concerning a video related to a dispute in Alibaug. Speaking to the media on Sunday, Narwekar termed the accusations a "cheap stunt" and completely baseless, asserting they were merely an attempt to create political capital.

Speaker's Firm Rebuttal to Raut's Claims

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the concluding session of the 4th Environment Youth Parliament 2026 organized by ABVP at Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur, Narwekar stated there was no need to pay attention to Raut's claims. "It is Sanjay Raut's old habit to level baseless allegations merely to create political capital. I did not respond to such cheap stunts in the past, and I will not do so in the future either," he declared emphatically.

Narwekar elaborated on the incident in question, explaining that while passing through Alibaug, he witnessed two individuals arguing and simply advised them to resolve the matter calmly. "I have nothing to do with that incident. I neither conducted any land measurement nor is the land in question mine," he clarified, adding that his family has roots in Alibaug for nearly 150 years.

Counter-Allegations and Political Context

The Speaker did not hold back in his response, challenging Raut to disclose his own land holdings in Alibaug. "Instead, Sanjay Raut should clarify how much land he owned in Alibaug before becoming an MP and in whose name that land stands today," Narwekar asserted, suggesting that Raut was in no position to lecture others given his past legal issues.

He further alleged that Raut's actions were part of a long-standing attempt to pressure the Speaker into resignation, calling the controversy politically motivated. "The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly never compromises with his constituents," Narwekar affirmed, reinforcing his commitment to his role.

Broader Constitutional Remarks

During the media interaction, Narwekar also addressed remarks made by senior AIMIM leader Waris Pathan regarding Tipu Sultan's picture in the original Constitution from the 1950s. He praised the Constitution of India as the "best constitutional document in the world" and cautioned against making controversial statements about it.

"The facts are before the people. If anyone wishes to provide more information about the Constitution, it should not hurt public sentiments. It is important to act responsibly," he stated, emphasizing the need for respectful discourse on constitutional matters.

Narwekar concluded by reiterating his dismissal of Raut's allegations, asserting that such tactics would not deter him, and he remains unfazed by what he described as mere rumors and political maneuvering.
