Mizoram's Annual Budget for 2026-27 to be Presented by CM Lalduhoma on February 26
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who also holds the crucial finance portfolio, is set to present the state's annual budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the legislative assembly on February 26. This significant announcement was made by Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama on Tuesday, outlining the detailed schedule for the upcoming budget session.
Revised Session Calendar and Key Dates
The budget session of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly will commence on February 17 and continue through March 16, marking an extension from the initially planned conclusion date of March 12. This extension was confirmed during the second meeting of the Assembly's Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held on Tuesday.
The decision to reschedule the budget presentation to February 26 came after the finance department indicated it would not be fully prepared by the earlier date of February 19. This adjustment was necessary to ensure all budgetary documents and proposals are thoroughly reviewed and finalized before presentation.
Session Proceedings and Governor's Address
As per the earlier BAC meeting decisions, Governor Gen Vijay Kumar Singh will deliver his customary address on the first day of the session, February 17. This address marks the opening of the sixth session of the ninth Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
The motion of thanks on the governor's address will be discussed and concluded on February 18, setting the stage for the subsequent budgetary discussions. Following the budget presentation on February 26, a general discussion on the budget is scheduled for March 2 and 3.
Subsequent proceedings will include government business and demand-wise discussions, allowing for detailed scrutiny of the budget allocations across various departments and sectors.
