New MPSC Office Brings Relief to Garo Hills Aspirants

In a significant development for competitive exam aspirants in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has inaugurated a new office building for the Meghalaya Public Service Commission in Dakopgre, Tura. This strategic move is set to transform the examination experience for thousands of youth across the Garo Hills region.

The newly established facility addresses a long-standing challenge faced by candidates who previously had to undertake exhausting journeys to Shillong for their MPSC examinations and interviews. The Chief Minister highlighted how candidates would often arrive tired after 10 to 15 hours of overnight travel and proceed directly to exam halls without adequate rest, significantly impacting their performance.

End of Examination Ordeal

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, CM Conrad K Sangma emphasized the transformative impact this development will have on young aspirants. "Many would arrive tired and go straight to the exam hall without rest. With this new facility, students can now give their exams and interviews right here in Tura", he stated.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the long journey and inadequate rest had been major obstacles affecting candidate performance, creating substantial challenges for residents of Tura and other parts of the state. The first MPSC examination at the new Tura facility is scheduled for November 14, 2025, marking a historic milestone in making public service recruitment more accessible across Meghalaya.

Expansion Plans and Infrastructure Development

The government has announced plans to extend similar facilities to the Jaintia Hills, ensuring equitable access to examination centers across all regions of Meghalaya. This expansion forms part of a broader strategy to decentralize administrative functions and bring government services closer to the people.

During his visit to Tura, the Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing construction of the additional secretariat complex, where he participated in pouring concrete for the first pillar. This project represents a major milestone in strengthening administrative infrastructure and improving governance in the Garo Hills region.

Meghalaya Speaker Thomas A Sangma, who attended the inauguration ceremony, described the event as a landmark moment that "heralds a new chapter in transparency, accountability, and people-centric governance".

The new MPSC office will facilitate comprehensive recruitment activities including examinations, interviews, and related processes for candidates from the Garo Hills region. This development is expected to significantly boost participation in competitive examinations by eliminating travel barriers and ensuring greater convenience for aspirants pursuing careers in public service.
