Nashik Corporators Demand Road Repairs and Uniform Development at First GB Meeting
Corporators in Nashik have raised urgent demands for road repairs, pothole-free streets, and uniform development across all wards during the first general body meeting of the Nashik Municipal Corporation held after the recent mayor and deputy mayor elections. The meeting, which took place on Friday, highlighted significant concerns about civic infrastructure that accumulated during four years of administrator-run governance.
Addressing Infrastructure Gaps
Several corporators noted that civic development had slowed down considerably over the past four years under administrator-led administration at the Nashik Municipal Corporation. They emphasized that this development gap must now be addressed through accelerated infrastructural projects to bring the city up to standard.
Shiv Sena corporator Kamlesh Bodke, who represents Ward 5 in the Panchavati division, pointed out that most city roads remain riddled with potholes, causing significant inconvenience to residents. "We want the mayor to instruct the civic administration to begin road repair works on priority and fix potholes across the city without delay," Bodke stated firmly during the meeting.
Calls for Uniform Development
NCP corporator Hemlata Patil urged newly elected mayor Himgauri Aher to ensure that development activities cover all wards uniformly, including those represented by opposition corporators. Patil further emphasized, "Nashik requires substantial funds from the state government, especially ahead of the upcoming Kumbh Mela. No ward should be ignored while framing the city's development agenda."
This call for equitable development comes as the city prepares for major events that will require comprehensive infrastructure improvements across all neighborhoods.
Memorial Proposal and Committee Delays
In other matters, independent corporator Mukesh Shahane demanded the construction of a grand memorial for the late NCP chief and former deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, at Pelican Park in Cidco. Mayor Aher responded by asking Shahane to submit a comprehensive proposal for the memorial at the next General Body meeting for proper consideration.
Meanwhile, discussions regarding the appointment of members to the city's 16-member standing committee were deferred. A proposal had been tabled to appoint committee members based on party strength in the House, but corporator Gurumit Bagga pointed out that the revenue department had not yet provided official party-wise strength details.
BJP group leader Shyam Badode added that group leaders of several parties had not yet submitted the list of their respective nominees for the standing committee. Considering these pending requirements, Mayor Aher agreed to adjourn the proposal. The standing committee members are now expected to be finalized in the next General Body meeting.
The meeting marked a significant step in returning to elected governance after years of administrator rule, with corporators eager to address long-standing infrastructure issues and ensure balanced development across Nashik's diverse wards.
