Hyderabad commuters received a significant infrastructure boost on Friday with the formal opening of the newly constructed Chikkadpally–Domalguda link bridge. The bridge, built over the Hussain Sagar surplus nala, is set to dramatically improve connectivity and ease long-standing traffic woes in the central parts of the city.
A Crucial Link for Faster Commutes
Constructed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at a cost of Rs 6 crore, the bridge is a strategic piece of urban infrastructure. Its primary benefit is the expected significant reduction in travel time between the busy areas of Chikkadpally, Ashok Nagar, Domalguda, and their surrounding localities. Officials project that journeys to key destinations like Liberty Junction, the GHMC head office, and the Secretariat will now be nearly twice as fast, effectively cutting travel duration by half.
Inauguration and Government's Vision for Urban Growth
The bridge was inaugurated by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, alongside GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. During the ceremony, Minister Prabhakar emphasized that the project underscores the state government's commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure in tandem with Hyderabad's rapid expansion. He highlighted that with the merger of municipalities within and around the Outer Ring Road, Greater Hyderabad has grown into one of the nation's largest cities in terms of both area and population.
The minister stated that civic amenities must keep pace with this growth. "Infrastructure such as roads, bridges, stormwater drains, street lighting, parks, and other civic amenities must expand in proportion to the city's growth," Prabhakar said. He added that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is focused on integrated and comprehensive planning to address Hyderabad's evolving needs.
Relief for Residents and Improved Connectivity
The development has been warmly welcomed by residents living in colonies on both sides of the nala. For years, they have grappled with circuitous routes and traffic congestion. The new direct link promises to resolve these distance and traffic-related problems, offering a smoother and more efficient daily commute. The bridge is not just a concrete structure but a vital artery expected to enhance the quality of life for thousands by saving time and reducing travel stress.
This project reflects a focused effort to decongest inner-city traffic and improve intra-city mobility, supporting Hyderabad's continued development as a major metropolitan hub.
