In a landmark development for the state force, the Odisha Police is poised to present its inaugural dedicated tableau at the Republic Day parade in Bhubaneswar next month. This historic participation is planned for the parade along the iconic Mahatma Gandhi Marg.
A Milestone Nine Decades in the Making
The state police headquarters has formally submitted a proposal to the government seeking approval for this significant entry. If cleared, the tableau's debut will coincide with a major milestone: the Odisha Police will celebrate its 90th anniversary on April 1, 2026, which also marks Odisha Formation Day.
Director General of Police Y B Khurania confirmed the move, stating that the force has never before been represented in the ceremonial parade through a dedicated tableau. He described the potential approval as a historic moment for the entire police force.
Blending Heritage with High-Tech Capabilities
The envisioned tableau aims to present a comprehensive picture of the Odisha Police, showcasing its rich legacy, evolving role, and modern capabilities. While the final theme and design are still under discussion, sources indicate it will masterfully blend tradition with innovation.
The presentation is expected to highlight the force's multifaceted commitment, including:
- Public safety and law & order maintenance.
- Disaster response during cyclones and floods.
- Community policing initiatives and women's safety programs.
- Traffic management and humanitarian efforts.
- Adoption of advanced technology for crime prevention and investigation.
Senior officials revealed that preparatory discussions are exploring elements like depictions of personnel in ceremonial attire, models of modern equipment, and symbols representing key police initiatives. DGP Khurania added that a meeting will soon be convened to finalise the tableau's theme.
Recognition on a Prestigious Platform
The Republic Day parade in Bhubaneswar is a major annual event, drawing thousands of spectators who eagerly await the vibrant tableaux that depict the state's heritage and institutional achievements. In the 2025 parade, Mahatma Gandhi Marg witnessed 12 themed tableaux and performances from 49 contingents, including various state and central forces.
Another police official noted that the likely inclusion of the Odisha Police tableau in the 2026 parade is seen as a recognition of its service and contributions to the state. Republic Day parades across India are renowned for such displays, which reflect the cultural, social, and institutional accomplishments of states and organisations.
This planned debut not only celebrates nine decades of service but also projects the Odisha Police's forward-looking vision to the citizens it serves, right on the state's most prominent ceremonial avenue.
