High-Voltage Drama at Pappu Yadav's Residence as Police Attempt Arrest in 31-Year-Old Case
Late Friday night, a high-voltage drama unfolded at the residence of Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, in the Mandiri locality of Patna. Police personnel from five different police stations converged on the location with the intent to arrest the parliamentarian in connection with a case dating back an astonishing 31 years.
Police Action and Supporters' Resistance
The police arrived at Yadav's residence following a direct court order to execute the arrest. However, the situation quickly escalated into a tense standoff. Pappu Yadav reportedly informed the police that he would cooperate with the investigation, but only in the morning, effectively delaying the process.
Compounding the challenge for law enforcement, a large crowd of Yadav's supporters gathered outside his residence. This gathering created a significant hurdle, impeding the police's efforts to carry out the arrest. As of the latest reports, the arrest had not been successfully executed, with the standoff continuing into the night.
Details of the 1995 Fraud Case
According to police sources, the case in question originates from 1995. The allegations center on Pappu Yadav fraudulently renting a house located in Patna's Gardanibagh area. The property was purportedly intended to be used as his office.
The case was formally filed by Vinod Bihari Lal, the owner of the house. Lal alleged that Yadav had rented the property under false pretenses, misrepresenting its intended use. Specifically, Lal claimed that Yadav did not disclose that he planned to use the residence as an office when entering into the rental agreement.
Court Orders and Legal Proceedings
The legal proceedings have been ongoing. The MP-MLA court in Patna had previously issued a non-bailable warrant against Pappu Yadav. This action was taken after Yadav repeatedly failed to appear in court despite receiving multiple summons.
In a significant escalation, the court also issued an order for the attachment of Yadav's properties. The next hearing in this long-running case is scheduled for February 7. The court has made it clear that if Pappu Yadav fails to appear before the court on that date, the police may be authorized to proceed with attaching his properties as per the earlier order.
This incident highlights the ongoing legal challenges facing the MP and sets the stage for a potentially contentious legal battle in the coming days.
