Punjab Government to Hold Anti-Drug Rally Ahead of Amit Shah's Moga Visit
Punjab Anti-Drug Rally Set Before Amit Shah's Moga Rally

Punjab Government Announces Major Anti-Drug Event in Moga District

In a significant move, the Punjab government has declared it will host a state-level function under the banner ‘Yudh Nashia Virudh-2’ in Moga district on February 16. This announcement comes just days before Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to hold a rally in the same district on February 22, setting the stage for a politically charged atmosphere in the region.

Massive Participation Expected from Local Committees

Officials have projected that nearly 1 lakh members from village and ward defence committees will actively participate in the programme. These committees play a crucial role in grassroots governance and community safety, making their involvement a key aspect of the event's outreach and impact.

High-Profile Attendees and Leadership Involvement

The event will see the participation of prominent political figures, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Their presence underscores the importance of the anti-drug initiative and aligns with the state government's ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse through public engagement and policy measures.

Extensive Preparations and Logistical Planning

Preparations for the rally are already underway, with nodal officer Sanyam Aggarwal, accompanied by Moga Deputy Commissioner Sagar Seta and Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi, conducting a thorough review of arrangements at Killi Chahlan village on the Moga-Ludhiana highway this past Friday. The inspection focused on ensuring smooth execution and adequate facilities for attendees.

To accommodate the large expected turnout, sitting arrangements for members of the village and ward defence committees will be organized across a sprawling 30 acres of land. This extensive setup highlights the scale of the event and the government's commitment to fostering broad community participation in its anti-drug campaign.

The timing of this function, just ahead of Amit Shah's proposed rally, adds a layer of political significance, potentially positioning it as a counter-narrative or complementary effort in the lead-up to the Union minister's visit. As Punjab continues to grapple with drug-related issues, such initiatives aim to mobilize public support and reinforce governmental actions at both state and local levels.
