Punjab CM gives jobs to 1,746 police constables

In a significant move to bolster law enforcement, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann personally distributed appointment letters to 1,746 new police constables during a ceremony held at the Punjab Armed Police Ground in Jalandhar on Sunday.

Massive Employment Drive: Over 63,000 Jobs in Four Years

The event highlighted the state government's aggressive employment push. An official statement revealed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government has made a total of 63,027 appointments in less than four years. This translates to providing government jobs to an average of 45 young people every single day since the government assumed office on March 16, 2022.

Addressing the new recruits from the district and armed cadres, Chief Minister Mann emphasized his administration's commitment to meritocracy. "From my very first day in office, I ensured that deserving youth get their due, and that is why 63,027 young people have received government jobs so far," he stated. He asserted that all recruitments, including this latest batch, were conducted through a completely transparent process.

Strengthening Police to Tackle Drugs, Cyber Crime, and Gangsters

The fresh induction is strategically aimed at empowering the Punjab Police in its ongoing battles. The government stated that these new constables will reinforce the force's fight against the triple threats of drugs, cyber crime, and gangsters.

Mann outlined the serious challenges faced by the border state, noting continuous attempts from a neighbouring country to mislead the youth. "These attempts will not be allowed to succeed," he declared. He expressed pride that in the last four years, 10,264 youths have been recruited into various ranks of the Punjab Police, crediting the force for maintaining Punjab's peace and unity.

Detailing the anti-drug campaign, Mann termed it a war against "drug terrorism." He announced the launch of the second phase of the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' (War Against Drugs) campaign, vowing not to rest until the menace is eradicated. He highlighted actions like imprisoning peddlers and demolishing properties built with drug money.

Leveraging Technology for a Modern Police Force

The Chief Minister stressed the need for constant technological upgrades to meet emerging challenges. He revealed that Punjab is the first state in India to deploy the 'Baz Aankh' (hawk-eye) anti-drone system in the border districts of Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Amritsar to curb the cross-border supply of narcotics and weapons.

On the cyber front, he shared that Punjab's State Cyber Crime Wing recently won the Excellence Award-2025 at the Digital Evidence Summit in New Delhi. Mann called upon the police to intensify action on all fronts, assuring them of the government's full support.

The ceremony was also attended by Punjab Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, and other senior police officers.
