Jaipur: Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Tikaram Jully, expressed concern on Thursday over the disillusionment of investors and solar panel manufacturers with the state government, despite the state having the highest potential for solar energy. He described this as a serious issue for the state’s economic and industrial development.
Warning of Investment Exodus
Jully warned that unless industries receive timely incentives, clear policies, and a supportive environment, Rajasthan could lose out on major investments, industries, and thousands of job opportunities. A report published by TOI on Thursday highlighted concerns from industry representatives, who stated that solar panel manufacturers are now prioritising states such as Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Telangana, and Odisha over Rajasthan.
Policy Confusion Hurting Sector
Jully said the lack of clarity in state government policies and definitions related to solar manufacturing has created confusion among investors, prompting several large companies to set up units outside Rajasthan. He reiterated concerns raised in the report that merely installing solar plants is not enough. Without promoting the manufacturing of equipment and components related to solar energy, the sector cannot generate large-scale employment.
Jully emphasised that if the government takes concrete steps in this direction, the solar energy sector could become a major source of jobs and industrial growth for the state’s youth. He also stressed that government policies should not remain confined to electricity generation but must be employment-oriented, ensuring better opportunities for Rajasthan’s young workforce within the state.
Call for Action Beyond Summits
Jully further said that while organising large investment summits and signing MoUs is positive, investments do not materialise on the ground through paperwork alone. The government must move beyond event management and seriously address the real problems, challenges, and suggestions of the industry.
