Amid speculation of a split in the Samajwadi Party (SP), Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar on Friday advised SP president Akhilesh Yadav to launch a campaign to save his own MPs. Rajbhar's comments come amid reports that several SP MPs are in touch with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Rajbhar's Remarks on SP's Internal Crisis
Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Rajbhar said, “Akhilesh Yadav should first launch a campaign to save his own MPs. There is a lot of restlessness among SP MPs, and many are in contact with the BJP.” He further added that if Akhilesh fails to manage his party, the SP might face a split.
Rajbhar, whose party SBSP is an ally of the SP, also expressed concern over the growing discontent within the SP. He said that the party's leadership should take immediate steps to address the grievances of its MPs and MLAs.
Background of the Political Tensions
The SP has been facing internal turmoil for some time, with several senior leaders expressing dissatisfaction with the party's direction. The recent defeat in the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh has further added to the party's woes. Reports suggest that some SP MPs are unhappy with the party's alliance with the SBSP and other smaller parties.
Rajbhar's statement is significant as it comes from a key ally of the SP. The SBSP had contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in alliance with the SP and won several seats. However, the alliance has been strained in recent months, with Rajbhar openly criticizing the SP leadership on several occasions.
Reactions from the Samajwadi Party
The Samajwadi Party has dismissed Rajbhar's claims as baseless. SP spokesperson said, “There is no crisis in the party. Our MPs and MLAs are united under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav. Rajbhar's comments are an attempt to create confusion.”
However, political analysts believe that Rajbhar's remarks could be a precursor to a possible realignment of political forces in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP, which is in power at the center and in the state, has been making efforts to expand its base by attracting leaders from other parties.
Future Political Scenario
With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approaching, the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh is becoming increasingly volatile. The SP, which is the main opposition party in the state, is facing challenges from both the BJP and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The internal strife within the SP could further weaken its position.
Rajbhar's advice to Akhilesh Yadav to focus on saving his MPs indicates that the SBSP chief is aware of the growing discontent within the SP. Whether the SP leadership will take any concrete steps to address these issues remains to be seen.
