A rally demanding a separate Ravain district was held in Purola town, Uttarkashi, on Monday. Residents, public representatives, and social activists gathered to urge the government to announce a new district for the region. The protesters highlighted the challenges posed by the difficult terrain and the long distance from the Uttarkashi district headquarters, which makes even routine official work arduous for the people of Ravain.
Rally Details
The rally was led by Prakash Kumar, convenor of the Ravain Separate District Struggle Committee, and Baldev Aswal, the committee president. It commenced at the sports ground and proceeded through Kumola Road, Mori Road, and the main market before concluding at the Tehsil premises. During the march, participants raised slogans supporting the demand for a separate district. Later, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through Tehsildar Kamal Singh Rathore.
Memorandum Highlights
In the memorandum, committee members stated that Ravain has long suffered from geographical, administrative, and developmental neglect. “People face difficulties in reaching Uttarkashi district headquarters even for small official work, and the region needs a separate district for better administration and faster development,” they said. The committee demanded that the Mori, Purola, and Naugaon development blocks be included in the proposed Ravain district.
Expected Benefits
The protesters argued that a new district would accelerate work related to education, healthcare, roads, drinking water, and other basic facilities. “If the government does not take a positive decision soon, the movement will be intensified further,” the agitators warned.
Key Participants
Several local leaders and residents attended the rally, including Congress district president Dinesh Singh Chauhan, former MLA Malchand, municipal chairman Bihari Lal Shah, Shweta Rajkumar, Gopal Singh Chauhan, Ankit Panwar, Surendra Devjani, Jagmohan Naudiyal, Ammichand Shah, and Dinesh Chauhan.
