Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is gearing up for an extensive tour of Telangana's districts immediately following the Sankranti festival. This move comes as the Congress party intensifies its political campaign ahead of crucial municipal elections and prepares for the CM's high-stakes overseas investment outreach.
Twin Objectives: Poll Mobilisation and Act Opposition
The planned tour, expected to cover at least four out of the state's nine districts, is a strategic two-pronged initiative. The primary goals are mobilising public opinion against the G RAM G Act and holding large-scale public meetings with a clear focus on the upcoming municipal polls. A senior Congress leader revealed there is significant pressure from within the party for the CM to complete this tour before his departure for the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 19.
The urgency stems from speculation within party circles that the notification for the municipal elections could be issued much earlier than the end of January. While the Chief Minister's Office is finalising the schedule, it is expected to be confirmed within a day or two.
Detailed Itinerary: From Sankranti to Davos
According to party sources, the proposed schedule is packed. Large public meetings are planned in Adilabad on January 16, followed by Mahabubnagar on January 17. The tour will then proceed to Khammam on January 18, where CM Revanth Reddy will attend the centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of India (CPI), an ally of the Congress.
Following the Left party's event, he is expected to travel to Warangal on the same evening, stay overnight, and inaugurate works related to the Medaram Jatara on the morning of January 19. The CM will return to Hyderabad later that evening and immediately depart for Davos. After his engagements at the World Economic Forum, he will travel to the United States for an investment outreach and is scheduled to return in the first week of February. Upon his return, he will resume the district tour.
Government Reiterates Development Focus
Amidst the political preparations, the state government has emphasised its commitment to development. Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy reiterated on Friday that addressing public issues remains the top priority of the Congress government.
"The government is committed to the development of municipalities," he stated after laying foundation stones for works worth ₹3.17 crore in Yellandu municipality. Addressing a public meeting, the minister said the administration is focused on providing improved infrastructure in both urban and rural areas, promising all-round development for towns across Telangana.
This district tour, therefore, represents a critical balancing act for CM Revanth Reddy—consolidating the party's grassroots support against a key state act and for local body elections, while also setting the stage for his international mission to attract global investment to Telangana.
