In a significant development in Amritsar, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Reorganised), Giani Harpreet Singh, has raised a serious alarm. On Saturday, he claimed that deliberate "political manoeuvring" is actively working to protect the individuals responsible for the mysterious disappearance of 328 saroops (holy volumes) of the Guru Granth Sahib.
A Grave Matter of Faith
Addressing the first gathering under the party's new district-wise meetings initiative, the former officiating jathedar of the Akal Takht framed the issue in the starkest terms. He emphasized that this is not a routine administrative failure but a grave issue directly linked to the core faith of the Sikh community. Harpreet Singh insisted that the matter must transcend petty politics and be handled with the utmost seriousness, transparency, and a clear demand for accountability.
Accusations of Political Exploitation
Launching a direct political offensive, Giani Harpreet Singh accused the current state government of a dual-faced strategy. He alleged that the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government is intentionally prolonging the investigation to evade ultimate responsibility. Simultaneously, he claimed the administration is exploiting the sensitive issue for narrow political gain. "The truth must come out, those responsible must be held accountable, and justice must be delivered to the sangat," he declared, outlining his party's unambiguous stand.
He further criticized the state government for pursuing what he termed anti-Punjab policies and systematically weakening institutions that serve Panthic and public interests under the guise of administrative actions. The SAD(R) chief issued a stern warning of robust democratic and legal resistance if such trends continue unchecked.
Focus on SGPC Elections and Party Outreach
Shifting focus to another critical issue, Giani Harpreet Singh spoke about the upcoming Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections. He stated that these polls are crucial for determining the future direction of the Panth. He demanded that the elections be conducted in a transparent and impartial manner to restore the trust of the Sikh congregation.
Meanwhile, he explained that the purpose of the district-wise meetings program is to strengthen the party's organizational structure at the grassroots level. The initiative aims to foster direct engagement with the public on a wide range of issues, including political, social, and Panthic matters.
