Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut launched a sharp attack on political rivals amid speculation of attempts to engineer defections within the party. Responding to rumours of efforts to break away Shiv Sena (UBT) MLAs, Raut challenged opponents to "do it and show us," while asserting that party workers remain loyal to the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray.
Press Conference in Delhi
At a joint press conference with MP Arvind Sawant in Delhi, Raut also rejected claims that the Eknath Shinde-led faction is the original Shiv Sena, declaring, "Jahan Thackeray wahan Shiv Sena." The party has meanwhile issued a three-line whip to all its MPs for an important meeting in Delhi.
Defection Rumours Dismissed
Raut's comments come amid persistent rumours that some MLAs from the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction may switch allegiance to the Shinde camp. However, the senior leader dismissed such speculation, emphasizing the unwavering support of party workers for the Thackeray family.
"Those trying to break our party should try it and see. Our workers are committed to Balasaheb's ideology," Raut said, adding that any attempt to split the party would fail.
Original Shiv Sena Claim
The Eknath Shinde faction has repeatedly claimed to be the original Shiv Sena, citing its control over the party's election symbol and recognition by the Election Commission. Raut rejected this assertion, stating that the party belongs where the Thackeray family is.
"Jahan Thackeray wahan Shiv Sena. This is the truth. No amount of political maneuvering can change that," he said.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in Maharashtra, with both factions of the Shiv Sena gearing up for upcoming elections. The meeting for which the whip has been issued is expected to discuss party strategy and organizational matters.
