A Heartbreaking Ordeal in Malda: Teacher Faces Bureaucracy Amidst Personal Tragedy
In a scene of profound sorrow and bureaucratic irony, the bodies of a young wife and her baby boy lay in the cold confines of a hospital morgue, awaiting their final rites, while madrassa teacher Md Yeasin Ansari stood in a queue for a SIR (Summary Inquiry Report) hearing on Friday. The 28-year-old educator, whose world had just been shattered, could only mourn his family and arrange their burial after fulfilling this official obligation.
The Fateful Journey and a Devastating Accident
On Thursday evening, Ansari, who resided with his wife Halima and their nine-month-old son Arif in a rented home in Sujapur, where he taught at a local madrassa, embarked on a trip to his family home in Gazole. The journey took a tragic turn when the e-rickshaw carrying the family overturned at Susthani More in English Bazar. Halima succumbed to her injuries on the spot, while little Arif was rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where he later died. Ansari, though injured, survived the crash.
A Grim Morning: Between Morgue and Hearing
On Friday morning, as the bodies of his wife and son awaited postmortem procedures at the hospital, Ansari made the difficult decision to leave for Gazole to attend the SIR hearing. He had recently received an Election Commission notice regarding a discrepancy in his surname, necessitating his presence. In a cruel twist, his brother-in-law Akhtar Hossain revealed in Gazole that there was no actual discrepancy in Ansari's records, adding to the senselessness of the tragedy.
The emotional toll was immense: Ansari, grappling with shock and grief, had to prioritize a bureaucratic formality over immediate mourning. This incident highlights the often inflexible nature of administrative processes, even in the face of human catastrophe.
Community members expressed disbelief and sympathy, noting the teacher's dedication to his duties amidst unimaginable personal loss. The accident has left the local area in mourning, with calls for improved road safety measures to prevent such future tragedies.
