Telangana Municipal Elections: Rs 2.02 Crore Worth of Materials Seized Under Model Code of Conduct

In a significant crackdown ahead of the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana, enforcement agencies have made substantial seizures totaling Rs 2.02 crore since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was implemented. These intensified measures are aimed at preventing electoral malpractices and ensuring a fair and level playing field for all candidates and parties involved in the democratic process.

Breakdown of Seizures Across Categories

The seizures, conducted up to Friday across various districts of the state, reveal a detailed pattern of attempted violations. Cash recoveries formed the largest component, with authorities confiscating Rs 89.30 lakh through rigorous vehicle checks, targeted raids, and continuous surveillance operations. This highlights ongoing efforts to curb the illegal flow of money that could potentially influence voter behavior.

Liquor worth Rs 84.89 lakh was also seized, indicating persistent attempts to distribute alcohol illegally as a means to sway voters during the critical election period. Such activities are strictly prohibited under the MCC to maintain the sanctity of the electoral process.

Additional Confiscations and Enforcement Actions

Further enforcement drives led to the confiscation of drugs and narcotics valued at Rs 13.27 lakh, alongside precious metals including gold, silver, and other valuables worth Rs 14.69 lakh. These items are often used as inducements to manipulate voter decisions, and their seizure underscores the authorities' commitment to upholding election integrity.

In addition, electronic tablets, vehicles, and other materials valued at Rs 78,500 were seized for alleged violations of election norms. These items are banned under the MCC as they are considered potential tools for influencing voters unfairly.

Ongoing Vigilance and Coordination Efforts

Election authorities have emphasized that vigilance, vehicle inspections, and coordination with police and other departments will continue unabated throughout the poll period. This proactive approach is designed to ensure strict compliance with election rules and safeguard the integrity of the municipal elections in Telangana.

The comprehensive seizure report serves as a strong deterrent against any attempts to undermine the electoral process, reinforcing the message that enforcement agencies are vigilant and prepared to take decisive action against malpractices.
