Thiruvananthapuram will witness significant traffic regulations this Sunday as the city prepares for the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The city police have announced a comprehensive plan to manage vehicular movement and ensure security throughout the day.
Key Traffic Regulations and Timings
The special traffic arrangements will be active from 8 am to 8 pm on Sunday. Authorities have implemented these measures to facilitate the smooth passage of the minister's convoy and maintain public order. The police have made it clear that cooperation from the public is essential for the success of these arrangements.
Major Roads with Complete Parking Prohibition
Parking will be strictly forbidden on several crucial stretches and junctions across the state capital. This decision aims to prevent congestion and allow for clear routes. The list of affected areas includes:
- The stretch from Women's College to Thycaud and the Thampanoor flyover.
- Power House Road and the Thakaraparambu flyover.
- Areas around Sreekandeswaram Park and SP Fort.
- The Pettah–Chackai–Shanghumugham–Domestic Airport Road.
- Important junctions like Aristo, Vazhuthacaud, Vellayambalam, Golf Links, and the Bakery flyover routes.
The police have issued a stern warning that any vehicle found parked in violation of these restrictions will be swiftly removed using recovery vehicles. Legal action will be taken against the offenders.
Designated Parking for Event Attendees
For those attending the official programme at Uday Palace in Kowdiar, specific parking instructions have been laid out. Heavy vehicles, such as buses, must drop off their passengers and proceed to park at the Vazhayila–Kallayam Road or the Attukal Temple parking ground.
Owners of small vehicles are directed to use the designated parking facilities available on Pattom–Kesavadasapuram Road. They can also utilize the multi-level parking areas at Palayam and the corporation office. Similar parking protocols have been established for events scheduled at the Lemon Tree Hotel.
Advisory for Commuters and Travellers
Considering the expected disruptions, the city police have issued a crucial advisory for the general public. Passengers with plans to travel to the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport or the Central Railway Station are strongly advised to plan their journeys well in advance. Leaving earlier than usual is recommended to account for potential delays and route diversions.
The police have also set up dedicated helpline numbers to address any traffic-related queries from citizens. They have appealed for public understanding and cooperation to ensure the day passes without major inconvenience and with full security.
