The long-standing barriers that impeded access were dismantled on Thursday night, marking the end of a period of inconvenience for daily travelers. Although the road traverses the private campus of Alembic Ltd—which hosts various company facilities alongside cafes, restaurants, and cultural venues—commuters were never formally prohibited from using it. However, in practice, security guards frequently halted vehicles, and the presence of barricades and gates created significant obstacles.
The road's status had been a point of contention, leading to confusion and frustration among residents. Previously, the mixed usage of public and private spaces along this route resulted in inconsistent access, with many drivers being turned away despite no official ban.
Political Intervention and Municipal Action
The issue gained traction after Sayajigunj MLA and councillor Keyur Rokadiya brought it to the forefront during a meeting with the municipal commissioner. Rokadiya sought clarity on two critical points:
- Whether the road qualified as a public thoroughfare.
- If building permissions had been granted by inaccurately representing the road's width to claim additional floor space index (FSI).
In response, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) conducted a thorough review of land records. A VMC official explained the findings: "Our verification revealed that a segment of the road is documented as a public path, while another portion lies on private property. Although movement was not officially restricted, the de facto barriers—security guards, barricades, and gates—caused undue inconvenience. Consequently, we issued directives for their removal, ensuring commuters can now travel freely without interrogation."
