The first day of the first round of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for first year junior colleges (FYJC) across Maharashtra was marred by technical issues on Thursday. Students and parents attempting to fill Parts 1 and 2 of the online admission form in the morning encountered an unresponsive screen displaying the message 'application under maintenance'.
Server Overload Causes Disruption
An official from the education department explained that the sudden influx of lakhs of students logging in simultaneously overwhelmed the server, causing downtime. The technical team resolved the issue within 30 minutes, restoring normal functionality. However, the lack of prior communication caused panic among parents and students. A parent from Pune expressed frustration, stating that the CAP committee should post notices on the website during such disruptions to alleviate anxiety.
Extended Deadline and Revised Schedule
In response to the glitch, the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education department issued a circular extending the online application deadline to 6 pm on Saturday (May 25) instead of the original Friday deadline. The revised schedule includes the following key dates:
- First Merit List: May 27 at 11 am
- Confirmation, Refusal, or Cancellation: Up to May 29
- Vacancy List after CAP Round 1: June 1
- Schedule for CAP Round 2: June 1
Admissions under management, in-house, and minority quotas will proceed as per the schedule on the official website.
Registration Statistics
As of Thursday evening, 10.47 lakh students had registered on the portal against a total vacancy of 21.58 lakh. Of these, 39,613 students have confirmed their admissions in the zero round for minority, in-house, and management quotas.
Important Reminders for Students
CAP officials urged students to register without delay, reiterating that SSC marksheets and School Leaving Certificates are not mandatory for filling out online forms. For assistance, students can call 8530955564 between 9 am and 7 pm or email support@mahafyjcadmissions.in.
Students are advised to check the official website regularly for updates and to complete their applications before the extended deadline.
