Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that the newly inducted air-conditioned double-decker electric bus will significantly enhance travel comfort and convenience for commuters in Thane. He urged citizens to treat the bus as their own possession and ensure its upkeep.
Official Induction Ceremony
Shinde made these remarks during the official induction ceremony of the bus into the Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) fleet. The event was attended by Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal, TMT Manager Bhalchandra Behre, and other dignitaries.
Inaugural Ride
The Deputy Chief Minister undertook a short round trip in the double-decker bus, traveling from the Municipal Corporation headquarters to Louiswadi and back.
Key Features and Operational Details
Shinde explained that these buses are being introduced under the GCC model, ensuring no financial burden on the transport service. The double-decker bus has a seating capacity of 65 passengers, with standing space for an additional 33 passengers. Initially, the bus will operate on the route from Teen Haath Naka to Gaimukh.
Future Fleet Expansion
Transport Manager Bhalchandra Behre announced that nine more buses will be added to the fleet shortly. He emphasized that the bus offers an environmentally friendly mode of transport and provides residents with an enjoyable travel experience comparable to tourism.
