Chandigarh Cyber Police Arrest Man for Child Exploitation Material Online
In a significant crackdown on digital crimes, the Chandigarh cyber police have arrested a 32-year-old man, identified as Joginder, a resident of Manimajra, for his alleged involvement in uploading and transmitting child sexual exploitation and abusive material online. This arrest underscores the growing efforts by law enforcement to combat heinous cyber offenses targeting minors.
Investigation Triggered by Cyber Tipline Report
The case came to light after the Chandigarh cyber crime police received a detailed cyber tipline report through the national cyber crime reporting portal. This report flagged a social media account that was allegedly used to upload and disseminate objectionable content involving a minor, prompting immediate police action.
Authorities conducted a thorough technical analysis, examining IP details provided in the report. By tracing the IP address through the internet service provider, police obtained crucial subscriber information. Further investigation involved scrutinizing call detail records and other digital evidence, which corroborated the initial findings and strengthened the case against the accused.
Arrest and Recovery of Electronic Devices
Based on the preliminary enquiry and mounting digital evidence, police registered a formal case under Section 67-B of the Information Technology Act, 2000, at the cyber police station in Sector 17, Chandigarh. The cyber crime team then identified and located Joginder, leading to his arrest from Manimajra.
During the arrest, police recovered a mobile phone and other electronic devices from Joginder's possession. These devices are believed to have been used in the commission of the offense and have been seized for forensic examination to gather additional evidence and insights into the criminal activities.
Forensic Support and Police Commitment
The investigation benefited significantly from forensic support provided by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. This collaboration enabled swift identification and arrest of the suspect, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in tackling cyber crimes.
Chandigarh Police reiterated its unwavering commitment to taking strict and prompt action against crimes involving the exploitation of children in the digital space. In a public appeal, police urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activity immediately through the national cyber crime reporting portal or by contacting local police authorities, emphasizing the collective role in ensuring online safety for all, especially vulnerable minors.
