Kurukshetra and Ambala have emerged as the top performers in rooftop solar installations in north Haryana under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, according to data from the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN). The scheme, which provides subsidies of up to Rs 1.10 lakh per connection, has seen 51,940 consumers install solar systems across 10 districts, achieving nearly 52% of the one-lakh target set for March 31, 2027.
Kurukshetra Leads with 83.93% Achievement
Kurukshetra district has installed 7,130 solar connections against a target of 8,495, achieving 83.93% of its goal. Ambala follows with 6,891 installations, reaching 71.68% of its target. Kaithal is also making progress, though specific figures were not provided by the UHBVN.
Subsidies and Benefits for Households
Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, residential households receive financial assistance of up to Rs 1.10 lakh per connection. This enables families to generate their own electricity, reducing monthly bills while promoting clean energy. The scheme is part of the government's push to expand renewable energy adoption at the grassroots level.
Progress Across North Haryana
The UHBVN, which oversees power distribution in 10 districts of north Haryana, reported that 51,940 rooftop solar systems have been installed so far. With a target of one lakh systems by March 2027, the region has achieved 51.94% of its goal. The remaining districts are expected to accelerate installations in the coming months.
Government's Renewable Energy Push
The scheme aligns with India's broader renewable energy targets, aiming to increase solar capacity and reduce carbon emissions. Officials from the UHBVN noted that the response has been encouraging, with more households opting for solar power due to the attractive subsidies and long-term savings on electricity costs.
