In a major drug bust, the Tarn Taran police arrested a Nigerian woman and a taxi driver with over 3 kilograms of heroin. The seizure took place during a routine check at a checkpoint near the city. The accused were identified as Mary, a Nigerian national, and Gurpreet Singh, a taxi driver from Amritsar.
Details of the Seizure
According to police officials, the contraband was concealed in a bag that the duo was carrying. The heroin, valued at several crores in the international market, was destined for local distributors. The police acted on a tip-off and intercepted the vehicle at a checkpoint.
Police Action
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran confirmed the arrest and stated that further investigation is underway to trace the drug network. The accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The police are also probing whether the duo had links with other drug peddlers in the region. This seizure is part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in Punjab.
