Delegation-Level Talks Held at State House
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie held delegation-level talks at the State House in Victoria on June 28, 2026, as part of PM Modi's three-day State Visit aimed at strengthening the longstanding bilateral partnership. The Indian delegation included External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. The Seychelles side comprised Vice President Sebastien Pillay, Principal Minister Wallace Cosgrow, Foreign Minister Barry Faure, and Finance Minister Pierre Laporte, among others.
Ceremonial Welcome and Guard of Honour
Earlier, PM Modi received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the State House, where President Herminie welcomed him. The two leaders also held bilateral talks prior to the delegation-level meeting. PM Modi arrived in Victoria on June 27 and was personally received at the airport by President Herminie, along with several cabinet ministers and senior officials, in a gesture underscoring warm bilateral relations. The arrival ceremony featured cultural performances, including a traditional dance from Gujarat's Kutch region.
Handover of Fast Patrol Vessel and Maritime Security Boost
In a key bilateral gesture, PM Modi handed over a 'Made in India' Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), PS LESPWAR, along with six ambulances, 10 utility vehicles, and five laser-guided boats to Seychelles to enhance its maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol capabilities. The high-level handover ceremony was held at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base in Victoria in the presence of President Herminie. Manufactured by Goa Shipyard Limited, the FPV is expected to significantly strengthen Seychelles' maritime security. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the initiative reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Seychelles, particularly in the Indian Ocean Region.
Golden Jubilee National Day Participation
PM Modi's visit, from June 27 to June 29 at President Herminie's invitation, includes his participation as Guest of Honour at Seychelles' Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations on June 29, commemorating 50 years of independence from the United Kingdom in 1976. On June 27, PM Modi also visited the Seychelles National Botanical Garden as part of cultural and environmental engagements.
The visit underscores the close diplomatic ties between India and Seychelles, with both nations committed to deepening cooperation in security, development, and regional stability.
