Bhopal Swelters Under Intense Heat as Summer Takes Hold
Winter has become a distant memory in Bhopal, with the sun beating down relentlessly through clear skies, roasting the city and its outskirts. This early surge in temperatures may signal what lies ahead as summer settles firmly across Madhya Pradesh. On Thursday, Bhopal sweltered at 35°C, while the neighboring Narmadapuram district saw the mercury soar to a scorching 39.4°C, nearly hitting the 40°C mark.
No Respite in Sight: Met Office Predicts Further Temperature Rise
The regional meteorological office has issued a stark warning, indicating no immediate relief from the heat. Over the next 3-4 days, temperatures are expected to increase by approximately 3 degrees. According to weather experts, this trend is driven by a combination of atmospheric conditions.
An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Simultaneously, a trough originating in central Uttar Pradesh is approaching this cyclonic system and is likely to pass over Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, and south Jharkhand at a similar altitude.
Weather Systems Contributing to Dry Conditions
Further compounding the situation, a subtropical westerly jet stream with core winds reaching 204 kmph is prevailing over northwest India at 12.6 km above mean sea level. Additionally, a fresh western disturbance lies along longitude 50 degrees east to the north of latitude 30 degrees north. The meteorological department states that these systems will result in bone-dry weather across the state.
On Thursday, Bhopal recorded a daytime temperature of 34.6°C, which is three degrees above the normal range for this period. The night temperature remained at 15°C, aligning with seasonal averages. Narmadapuram emerged as the hottest spot in the state, with its peak temperature of 39.4°C highlighting the intensity of the heatwave.
Forecast for Friday and Beyond
Looking ahead, the Met office predicts clear skies for Bhopal on Friday, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be 35°C and 15°C, respectively. Average wind speeds are forecasted at 10 kmph. The entire state is anticipated to experience continued dry weather, underscoring the need for residents to take precautions against the escalating heat.
As summer entrenches itself, these conditions serve as a reminder of the challenges posed by rising temperatures in the region.
