Tragedy Strikes at Ganga Ghats
A nine-year-old boy from Delhi’s Rohini area drowned while bathing in the Ganga at Rishikesh on Thursday. The incident occurred at Geeta Kutir Ghat under Raiwala police station. Kush Sharma had come to the city with his parents and elder brother. His elder brother, Priyanshu Sharma, was also swept away by the strong current but was rescued by locals.
Earlier Drowning Incidents
Meanwhile, SDRF personnel recovered the body of a Delhi woman, Janki (28), who went missing along with her husband in a drowning incident last week. Her body was found at Pashulok Dam in Rishikesh. Additionally, a 16-year-old boy, Harshil Chauhan of Surat, Gujarat, who had gone missing while bathing in the Ganga at Balram Ghat in Bhupatwala, Haridwar, on June 17, was found dead on Thursday. Harshil had come to Haridwar with his family when he slipped into deep water and drowned.
SDRF Operations
SDRF officer Kavindra Sajwan told TOI, “Kush Sharma went into deep water and was swept away by the strong current of the river. His elder brother, Priyanshu Sharma, tried to save him but was also swept away; however, he was rescued by locals. We also recovered the body of a 16-year-old after deep diving in the Ganga river in Haridwar. On Thursday, we recovered the body of Janki, a resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi, from Pashulok Dam in Rishikesh.”
