Howrah: State urban development and municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul on Thursday ordered a comprehensive clean-up of drains, drainage channels, and canals across Howrah, warning strict action against officers and engineers if work is not executed properly. She also directed stronger prevention and surveillance measures against dengue and other infectious diseases in the region.
Inspection and Directives
Paul was in Howrah to oversee a cleanliness drive and yoga event at Ramkrishnapur Ghat. During her visit, she emphasized the need to prevent electrocution on waterlogged streets and warned of zero tolerance for negligence in municipal duties.
Municipal Poll Preparations
She stated that preparations for the Howrah Municipal Corporation polls will commence after Durga Puja. Paul alleged that some appointees from the Trinamool Congress era were not working properly, aiming to damage the state's image, and said the government is monitoring the situation and will take necessary action.
Attendees at the event included Umesh Rai, Rudranil Ghosh, Sanjay Singh, District Magistrate P Deepap Priya, Commissioner Tejaswi Rana, senior officials, sanitation and health staff, and students.
