A 20-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide at her grandmother's residence in Vellalapuram near Konganapuram in Salem district on Friday. The deceased has been identified as S Kobika, who passed Class XII with 440 marks in 2024. She was a student at Fort Government Girls' Higher Secondary School.
Background of the Incident
Kobika, daughter of V Sekar and S Bhuvaneswari of Erumapalayam, had unsuccessfully attempted the NEET exam twice. She was preparing for the NEET UG re-examination scheduled on June 21 at her grandmother's house in Vellalapuram. According to her father, she took the extreme step due to fear of failure and anxiety.
Police Response and Investigation
The Konganapuram police rushed to the house and recovered the body. The body was sent to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.
