CDS Chauhan: Strategic Thinking Key to National Security

CDS Gen Anil Chauhan Advocates for Strategic Thinking to Bolster National Security

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan delivered a compelling address on Saturday, underscoring the critical need to cultivate a strategic thinking mindset among the general populace of India. He asserted that national security must evolve into a collective responsibility embraced by every segment of society, rather than being confined solely to military domains.

Event Highlights and Key Attendees

The significant remarks were made during an event titled ‘Strategic Thinking and National Security,’ held at the Swami Manmathan auditorium on the Chauras campus of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand. The gathering was graced by the presence of university vice chancellor Sriprakash Singh and Uttarakhand education minister Dhan Singh Rawat, highlighting the educational and governmental support for this initiative.

Emphasizing Shared Responsibility and Historical Inspiration

In his speech, CDS Chauhan elaborated that national security transcends military duties and should be ingrained as a fundamental civic duty, starting from educational institutions like schools and universities. He stressed the importance of disseminating knowledge and perspectives centered around national security strategy to foster a more aware and proactive citizenry.

Furthermore, Chauhan highlighted that India's strategic vision draws inspiration from rich historical traditions, including Vedic literature, Chanakya Niti, and Dhanurveda. However, he noted that this visionary approach experienced a decline during the Mughal and British colonial eras, underscoring the need to revive and strengthen these indigenous strategic philosophies in contemporary times.

Addressing Contemporary Challenges and Donation to University

The CDS also pointed out the pressing challenges facing India, such as its borders and nuclear-armed neighbors. He emphasized the necessity for a robust government, a powerful military, and comprehensive strategic preparedness to navigate these complexities effectively.

Earlier in the event, CDS Chauhan contributed to academic enrichment by donating 227 books to the university's library. These books cover strategic, historical, and research topics, providing invaluable resources for students and researchers to deepen their understanding of national security and related fields.
