Southern Railway Implements Temporary EMU Service Adjustments in Chennai
In response to operational disruptions, Southern Railway has announced significant modifications to its Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) shuttle services affecting key suburban routes in Chennai. The changes are designed to mitigate passenger inconvenience caused by a scheduled line block at platforms 10 and 11 of Chennai Egmore railway station.
Revised Shuttle Services and Additional Stoppages
Effective immediately, EMU shuttle services will operate between Chennai Egmore or St Thomas Mount and Guduvancheri or Chengalpet. To enhance connectivity, fast EMU trains will incorporate additional stoppages at St Thomas Mount station, facilitating smoother transfers for commuters.
Cancellations and Operational Adjustments
All non-peak hour AC EMU services running between Chennai Beach and Tambaram have been cancelled on weekdays. Furthermore, AC EMU services will remain suspended on Sundays throughout this period. In a related adjustment, Gummidipundi–Tambaram EMU services will now commence and terminate at Chengalpet on weekdays.
Impact on Passenger Specials and Skipped Stops
Several EMU passenger specials in both directions will bypass stops at Pallavaram, Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam, and Chetpet due to operational necessities. This measure aims to optimize train schedules and reduce delays.
Passenger Advisory and Timetable Verification
Southern Railway officials strongly advise passengers to consult the modified suburban timetable before embarking on their journeys. The temporary alterations are expected to remain in effect until the line block at Chennai Egmore is resolved, ensuring minimal disruption to daily commutes.
These proactive steps underscore Southern Railway's commitment to maintaining service efficiency while addressing infrastructure constraints. Commuters are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for further updates.
