Indian Embassy in UAE Issues Critical Travel Advisory Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict
The Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi has issued an urgent advisory on Tuesday, calling on Indian nationals residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to exercise extreme caution and avoid all non-essential travel. This warning comes as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which began on February 28 with a joint military operation by the United States and Israel against Iran, continues to intensify and spread across the region.
Conflict Expands to Gulf States, Targeting UAE Cities
The military confrontation has now extended to several Gulf states that host US military installations, with Iran launching retaliatory strikes against these nations. In a significant escalation, Tehran has conducted attacks on Dubai, the UAE's largest and most populous city, as well as Abu Dhabi, the country's capital and second-largest urban center. These developments have raised serious security concerns for the entire region.
"In light of the current regional situation, all Indian nationals in the UAE are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, exercise caution, stay vigilant, and follow safety guidelines and advisories issued by the UAE authorities and the Embassy," the embassy stated in an official communication posted on social media platform X.
Embassy Operations Continue Normally with Emergency Support
The embassy confirmed that both its main office in Abu Dhabi and the Indian consulate in Dubai are operating normally despite the heightened tensions. Officials emphasized that these diplomatic missions will continue to provide regular updates and assistance as required. The advisory also included emergency contact numbers specifically for Indian citizens in the UAE, ensuring they have direct access to support channels during this crisis.
Warning Against Rumors and False Information
Reiterating an earlier caution issued at the conflict's onset, the embassy strongly advised Indian community members in the UAE to disregard unverified rumors and fabricated news regarding the security situation. "The members of the Indian community in the UAE are requested not to fall prey to rumours or false information regarding the security situation, and to follow the official channels of the Embassy, Consulate, and UAE government authorities for updates," the initial advisory had stated.
The embassy further cautioned individuals to be prudent when sharing information on social media platforms, aligning their posts with guidelines issued by UAE authorities to prevent the spread of misinformation that could exacerbate tensions or compromise safety protocols.
Significant Indian Population in the Region
West Asia, where this conflict is unfolding, is home to approximately 10 million Indian nationals, with about 3.5 million residing specifically in the UAE. This substantial community constitutes more than 35% of the UAE's total population of 10 million, highlighting the critical importance of this advisory for a large segment of the country's residents.
The Indian government's proactive measures aim to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad as geopolitical tensions create an increasingly volatile environment in the Middle East.
