India Issues Urgent Advisory for Nationals to Depart Iran Amid Escalating Tensions
The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued an urgent advisory on Monday, directing all Indian nationals to depart from Iran immediately. This critical move comes amid growing fears of potential conflict in the Middle East as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.
Immediate Departure Advised for All Indian Citizens
In its advisory, the embassy explicitly asked all Indian citizens currently in Iran to leave the country without delay. This directive applies to students, pilgrims, business persons, and tourists alike. The embassy emphasized that individuals should utilize all available means of transport, including commercial flights, to ensure their safe departure from Iranian territory.
The advisory stated: "In continuation of the advisory issued by the Government of India on 5 January 2026, and in view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists) are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights."
Reiteration of Safety Precautions and Emergency Contacts
The embassy further reiterated its previous advisory from 14 January 2026, urging all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise extreme caution during this volatile period. Specific recommendations include avoiding areas where protests or demonstrations are occurring, maintaining regular contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran, and closely monitoring local media for any new developments.
Additionally, the advisory stressed the importance of having all necessary travel and immigration documents readily available. This includes passports and identification documents that might be required for departure or emergency situations.
For immediate assistance, the embassy provided dedicated emergency contact helplines: Mobile Numbers: +989128109115; +989128109109; +989128109102; +989932179359. The consular email address for inquiries is cons.tehran@mea.gov.in.
Background: Regional Tensions and Diplomatic Developments
This urgent advisory comes at a time when student protests have continued for a second consecutive day in Iran. Simultaneously, Tehran and Washington remain engaged in high-stakes negotiations aimed at striking a nuclear deal. The next round of these crucial talks is scheduled to occur in Geneva later this week, specifically on Thursday, February 26, as confirmed by Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi.
The geopolitical landscape has been further complicated by recent statements from US President Donald Trump, who issued a direct warning to Iran. Trump demanded that Iran come to terms with America within a strict timeframe of 10-15 days, stating: "We're either going to get a deal, or it's going to be unfortunate for them... 10-15 days would be enough time."
The Indian government's proactive advisory reflects growing international concern about the stability of the region and prioritizes the safety and security of its citizens abroad during this period of heightened uncertainty.
