U.S. President Donald Trump has once again attacked Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, accusing her of political opportunism and disloyalty during the recent Iran conflict. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump reiterated his claim that Meloni repeatedly asked him for photographs, allegedly seeking a boost in popularity as her political standing in Italy weakened.
Trump's Criticism of Meloni's Iran Stance
The president also criticized Meloni's position on Iran, stating that she opposed American efforts aimed at preventing Tehran from obtaining or developing a nuclear weapon. Trump argued that the United States spends hundreds of billions of dollars helping protect Italy and other NATO countries, while receiving insufficient support in return.
Meloni's Response
According to Italian media, Trump claimed that Meloni had “begged” him for a photo-op. In response, Meloni posted a video calling Trump’s claims “completely fabricated” and expressing astonishment that he would invent such things about an ally.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions between the two leaders, particularly regarding NATO contributions and the Iran nuclear issue.
