A Government Railway Police (GRP) constable on duty at Dombivli railway station in Thane on Friday saved a 70-year-old man from falling under a moving local train, demonstrating remarkable quick thinking that has since gone viral on social media.
The incident occurred on platform No. 1, where the elderly man attempted to board a departing local train. As the train pulled away, he lost his balance and teetered dangerously close to the gap between the platform edge and the tracks.
GRP constable Anil Shelke, who was on duty nearby, spotted the danger instantly and sprinted towards the man, pulling him away from the edge just seconds before he could slip under the train. CCTV footage of the rescue, widely circulated online, shows the officer reacting within moments, a police officer said.
The elderly man, visibly shaken, expressed his gratitude to Shelke for saving his life. The video has drawn widespread praise from commuters and railway officials for the constable's alertness and swift reflexes.
The police once again issued a stern warning to commuters, urging them to avoid boarding or alighting from moving trains, calling such attempts life-threatening. A police officer said incidents of this nature were entirely preventable and urged passengers to wait for trains to come to a complete halt before attempting to board.
