Vande Bharat Express Jammu-Srinagar Service Launch Delayed
The highly anticipated launch of the premium Vande Bharat Express service connecting Jammu and Srinagar has been officially postponed. Railway authorities have confirmed that the service, which was scheduled to commence operations between the twin capital cities from March 1, will now begin at a later date.
Revised Schedule to be Announced Soon
According to official statements from railway authorities, a revised date for the launch will be announced in the near future. The 20-coach premium train was set to extend the existing Vande Bharat service that has been successfully operating between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar for over eight months.
The current Vande Bharat service operates with an eight-car rake between Srinagar and Katra, transporting approximately 1,400 passengers daily. The planned extension would have connected Jammu Tawi to this premium rail network, significantly enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar.
Strong Patronage Since Inauguration
The Vande Bharat Express service was officially flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, following the inauguration of the landmark Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project. This crucial infrastructure development established all-weather rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, marking a significant milestone in regional transportation.
Since its launch, the train has recorded exceptionally strong patronage, with nearly 3.75 lakh passengers traveling on the service during its first six months of operation. This impressive ridership demonstrates the growing demand for premium rail connectivity in the region.
Expanding Railway Operations in Jammu Division
Concurrently with the passenger service developments, the Jammu railway division has significantly expanded its freight and logistics operations over the past year. This dual focus on both passenger and freight services reflects the comprehensive approach to railway infrastructure development in the region.
The postponement of the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat extension comes as railway authorities work to ensure optimal operational readiness for the expanded service. While the specific reasons for the delay have not been detailed, authorities have emphasized their commitment to launching the service with full operational efficiency.
Railway officials have assured that the revised launch date will be communicated to the public as soon as all necessary preparations are complete, ensuring that the premium train service meets the high standards expected of Vande Bharat Express operations.
