Fire at Kanpur Tannery, No Injuries

A massive fire broke out at a tannery in Sanjay Nagar, Jajmau, Kanpur, on Thursday afternoon. Fortunately, no one was injured, as the workers made a timely escape.

Suspected Cause of the Fire

A short circuit in the tannery’s spray department is suspected to have caused the fire. The flames were so fierce that smoke could be seen from a distance of 3 km.

Firefighting Efforts

On being alerted, two fire engines reached the spot. Pipes from other nearby tanneries were also used to extinguish the fire.

Owner and Operations

Yasin, a resident of Faheemabad in Chamanganj police station area, owns the tannery, New Globe. Chemicals and leather were kept in the tannery’s spray department due to which the fire spread rapidly.

Official Statement

Chief fire officer Deepak Sharma said that there was no loss of life and the fire was extinguished.
