Residents Take Action on Damaged Jasra Road
Residents of Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib district have taken matters into their own hands by repairing the pothole-ridden Jasra Road at their own expense. The road, which has been in a dilapidated condition for months, poses significant safety risks for commuters, schoolchildren, and two-wheeler riders. Locals have been using construction material to fill the potholes temporarily, hoping to make the road motorable until the authorities step in.
Repeated Appeals Ignored
According to residents, they had made multiple appeals to the local administration for road repairs, but no action was taken. The road's poor quality was reportedly raised during its construction, but irregularities were overlooked. Social activist Deep Garg said, "It is unfortunate that citizens are now forced to spend their own money to repair a public road because the administration has failed to discharge its responsibility." He demanded immediate reconstruction of the road to meet quality standards and strict action against officials and contractors responsible for substandard work.
Cost of Repairs and Official Response
The repair work on the two key roads in the area is estimated to cost Rs 5.7 crore, but no timeline has been provided by the authorities. Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of accountability and the burden placed on them. The temporary fixes are not a long-term solution, and the community is calling for a permanent repair to ensure safety and convenience.
