Coimbatore: At least 28 passengers sustained injuries when a private bus traveling from Tirupur to Coimbatore lost control and overturned near the Neelambur flyover on Friday morning. The accident occurred around 7 a.m., causing panic among the 71 passengers on board.

High-Speed Crash

Police officials reported that the bus was traveling at an excessive speed. As it approached the Neelambur flyover, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and flip onto its side. The impact shattered the bus windows, leaving passengers trapped and screaming for help.

Rescue Operation

Local residents who witnessed the accident immediately rushed to the scene and began rescuing passengers. Upon receiving alerts, police personnel along with fire and rescue services teams arrived and successfully extricated all trapped individuals. The injured were rushed to nearby private hospitals for treatment. The accident caused temporary traffic disruption on the busy national highway.

Bus Involved in Previous Accidents

A police officer stated, “The bus, which has a capacity of 55, was carrying 71 passengers and was traveling at a high speed.” He further revealed that the same bus had been involved in several other accidents over the past three months, resulting in two fatalities.

Legal Action

The Neelambur police have registered a case against the driver, identified as Sukumar, and the conductor, Meganathan, for overspeeding and negligence. Both have been arrested.
