Jaipur: Jewellery valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh, belonging to a patient, was allegedly stolen from a hospital guest house in Malviya Nagar, police reported on Friday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of June 12 at Apex Hospital in Malviya Nagar. Police registered an FIR on Thursday evening.

The complainant, Gopiram Meena (58), a government school teacher from Dausa's Badoli village, approached law enforcement after obtaining CCTV footage from the hospital.

According to the FIR, Meena had brought his wife to the hospital following a deterioration in her health. She was admitted to the emergency ward and later transferred to the ICU. Before the transfer, hospital staff handed over her jewellery to Meena for safekeeping.

After completing admission formalities, Meena went to sleep in the hospital guest house around 12:30 am. Police stated that three men entered the guest house around 3 am and moved around the area where relatives of patients were resting.

"One of the accused then lay down beside Gopiram, pretending to be an attendant. Within minutes, he allegedly removed a bag containing the jewellery and quietly walked away before fleeing with his accomplices," a senior police officer said.

The theft came to light when Meena woke up and found the bag missing. He subsequently obtained CCTV footage from the hospital and lodged a complaint.

"The footage clearly shows the movement of three suspects and captures the theft being carried out in about five minutes," the officer added.

Police confirmed that the footage shows the movement of the suspects and the alleged theft.
