Trichy Police Seize 4.1kg Ganja, Arrest Man

Trichy: The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of Trichy police has apprehended a 33-year-old man in the city for possessing 4.1kg of ganja sourced from Odisha. Police identified the accused as T Prasanth, a resident of Mill Colony in Ramji Nagar, describing him as a frequent offender. He had previously evaded arrest while attempting to peddle 1.8kg of ganja on June 16.

Tip-off Leads to Arrest

Acting on a tip on Thursday, Sub-Inspector of Police Georgy Jacob and his team rushed to an isolated spot near the bunds of Pirattiyur tank, opposite the Trichy West RTO office. There, they caught Prasanth in possession of two bundles of ganja weighing 4.1kg, valued at approximately ₹2 lakh.

Smuggling Network

According to a police source, Prasanth had been smuggling ganja from Odisha through rail and road networks. Sometimes, peddlers use heavy vehicles that transport goods between states to smuggle ganja. Police said that peddlers who bought from Prasanth sold ganja, including to college students, in the city and neighboring districts.
