Accused Flees Police Custody in Gurgaon, Manhunt Launched
In a startling incident in Gurgaon, a 25-year-old man accused in a mobile-snatching case managed to escape from police custody while being brought back from a city court. The suspect, identified as Ravi, a resident of Shanti Colony in Delhi's Mandi village, fled from the Sector 29 police station, prompting authorities to launch a widespread manhunt to trace him.
Details of the Escape
Ravi was arrested along with another individual, Aditya, a resident of Bheem Basti, in connection with a case registered on February 25. Both accused were produced before the court on a day's remand. After the proceedings, as they were being escorted back to the police station, Ravi allegedly pushed a police personnel inside the premises and made a swift escape. Police immediately secured Aditya in the lock-up to prevent any further incidents.
Legal Actions and Investigation
Based on a complaint filed by head constable Pradeep Kumar, a fresh FIR has been registered under Section 265 (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators revealed that Ravi and Aditya were involved in multiple mobile-snatching incidents. According to an officer, "They would travel from Delhi to Gurgaon on a motorcycle, target pedestrians or commuters, snatch mobile phones, and flee back to Delhi." The duo was arrested earlier this week in one such case and was under interrogation to determine their involvement in other crimes.
Previous Incidents and Accountability
This is not the first such incident in Gurgaon. In December last year, another accused attempted to escape from police custody at the Civil Hospital in Sector 10 but was apprehended. Authorities have stated that departmental action may be taken if any lapses are found on the part of the police personnel involved in the recent escape. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on locating Ravi and ensuring he is brought back to justice.
