Kanpur: The body of an Agniveer serving in the Sikhlai Regiment in Fatehgarh was discovered hanging from a noose inside a barrack on Wednesday. The soldier had been missing from his battalion for three days. A foul odor emanating from the unoccupied barrack prompted a police response. Upon entry, the body was recovered.
Agniveer Jasanpreet (22), a resident of Bhagatgarh village in Barnala district, Punjab, was assigned to the Sikhlai Regiment in Fatehgarh for training since March. He went missing three days ago, prompting a search within the regiment.
On Wednesday, the stench from the MTC quarter barrack led Fatehgarh Kotwali police to be alerted. Central Jail Police Out-post in-charge Shiv Kumar arrived with personnel. Forcing open the barrack door, they found the Agniveer's body hanging. Due to the passage of two days, the body had decomposed. A forensic team collected evidence at the scene.
Investigations revealed the Agniveer had been absent from his battalion for three days. He had locked the empty barrack from inside and hanged himself. Fatehgarh Kotwali inspector Tej Singh stated that after postmortem, the body was handed over to unit personnel.
